Recommend trying out Reason as a starting point then later moving onto logic if you feel limited by that. Or you could just try logic straightaway if you don't mind the steep learning curve:

Horses for Courses...or is that Courses for Horses...?

anyways, try some DAW demos and see which you prefer.
there really is no right or wrong DAW imo, it's just what you do with it that counts!

<< PC owner, Reason user, for sake of curiosity

HD25's will be fine if you already have a pair, but they are more DJing headphones. I'd rather get some ATH-M50's in that price range. HD600's are a better choice for studio monitoring, but they are more expensive, and you would need a proper headphone amplifier to power them properly (also expensive). It is important to note that a decent pair of studio monitors is a lot more important than headphones anyway.

When I first started out I used cheap headphones for a while (HD 280s) until I got my monitors. It doesn't really matter what you use at the start to be honest, just get whatever is in your price range. The most important thing is learning the software and making tunes, even if they don't sound that great to start with. You can buy studio monitors, an audio interface, good headphones, keyboard, etc at a later point.
