Ended pretty abruptly there just as it looked like it was about to get a bit more interesting... only really useful for the complete noob IMO. Good work anyway!

cheers for the feedback.

yeah fair call, it did end abruptly as he went on about all sorts of things after that which wasn't very focused - I am trying to keep it snappy and under 10 mins.

true, wouldn't mind seeing the non ADD version or a part 2 or something if you ended up cutting out interesting stuff...?

I wish I could get a sense of irony, humor or seriousness from your post... :?

Translation of my post:
So did you cut out interesting material at the end of the video to make it more digestable? If so, I would be interested to see a full version, or a 'part 2', containing the rest of the footage.

Just an expression of interest.

Well for me, the summary of the episode was 'it's all about rhythmic tension, and that's all we have time for today' haha. So yeah, I'd like to know more about this concept, and how to apply it to drum programming. How to achieve different effects using different patterns of hit velocities, etc.

speaking of drums...

Mandatory speal:
As I start digging into the launchpad I am trying to create a fun setup for playing with drum loops live. To achieve this I really needed monetary CC control values on some pads, as oppose to the default toggle behavior.
In order to set this up we need to use Novation’s Automap software. All the reading I could find pointed to me having to choose either the native Launchpad configuration (with session mode etc.) OR the Automap configuration to get my monetary controls. However this is not the case! There is a way to switch between the two different setups on the fly. If you have a Launchpad and dont know how to do this I highly recommend you check out this episode!

More Akai toys!

Mandatory speal:
The LPK25 or “Laptop Performance Keyboard” is a very portable 25 key USB midi keyboard with built in arpeggiator. Even though the keys arnt full sized I still found it very usable for working out quick melodies and bass lines. Here I go into detail with the arp option to show you it actually gives you quite a few options and even better it can sync to you DAW’s midi clock.

we're back onto the Lauchpad again!

Mandatory speal:
This week I show you one of the best ways to cut up drumloops during a live performance. This setup can be done on other controllers however the Launchpad layout works really well with it. One of the great things about this is you can set it to your own percussion competency level, from seasoned pro drummer to first timer. And I think it would be just as much fun for either.

How to get fine control of your faders and effects on the launchpad. No more chunky steps just good old 127 increment midi adjustment. Also how to setup a reset for any parameter the same way the native mixer mode resets the pans and sends etc.

and now for something completely different...

Mandatory speal:
I was lucky enough to be joined by John of Urban Chain Studios as we tested the following selection of closed back circumaural studio headphones:

Sony 7509 HD
Beyerdynamic DT100
Audio Technica ATH-M50
AKG K271 MKII
SHURE SRH840

The champion wasn’t the most expensive and it did take us by surprise.

(Warning this episode is a long one so be prepared for 30mins of headphone natter, and is liberally sprinkled with reverb)

new eposode:
Gigantor is world renowned as a producer in ultra heavy dnb group Evol Intent as well as his solo project Computer Club. So I was stoked when he agreed to sit down and have a long chat with me about production, equipment, the future, drum step and even politics.
